 Volume 6: Coverage Overview

This volume encompasses the following constitutional provisions:

  • Articles 25–28: These articles deal with the right to freedom of religion, including the freedom to profess, practice, and propagate religion, and the state's authority to regulate or restrict any economic, financial, political, or other secular activity associated with religious practice.

  • Articles 29–30: These provisions protect the cultural and educational rights of minorities, allowing them to conserve their distinct language, script, or culture and establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.

  • Articles 31–31D: These articles historically pertained to the right to property and related matters. However, it's important to note that Article 31 was repealed by the 44th Amendment Act, 1978, and Article 31D was repealed by the 43rd Amendment Act, 1977.

  • Articles 32–35: These articles provide the right to constitutional remedies, empowering individuals to approach the Supreme Court or High Courts for enforcement of fundamental rights.

This volume is part of the comprehensive 16-volume set of Commentary on the Constitution of India by D.D. Basu, which is widely regarded as an authoritative source on Indian constitutional law.
