The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a national-level certification exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI). Its primary purpose is to assess an advocate’s analytical abilities, understanding of core legal principles, and practical application of law.

The AIBE is not a competitive exam; instead, it is a qualification test that law graduates must pass to receive the Certificate of Practice (CoP), which legally allows them to practice in courts across India.

The exam evaluates knowledge in areas such as Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Civil Procedure, Evidence, Professional Ethics, IPR, and various other substantive and procedural laws. Candidates must be enrolled with their respective State Bar Councils before appearing.

AIBE is typically conducted in offline (pen-and-paper) mode and features multiple-choice questions across a wide range of subjects. The exam ensures that new advocates possess the essential legal competence required for professional practice.
